Sophie Turner and Kit Harington ditch their 'Game of Thrones' brother-sister roles for an awkward, romantic kiss in the gothic horror movie 'The Dreadful.'

A behind-the-scenes clip released by Entertainment Tonight reveals that the pair pretended to gag after the director called 'cut.' Their laugh-filled stunt, a testament to their chemistry, gives a glimpse into the camaraderie that keeps them on their feet.

The two GoT stars are reunited on the film set after years of friendship. Harington shared how he saw the script for the horror feature.

'She was the one who sent that movie to me and somehow didn't see what I saw in it,' he told E! News in an exclusive interview. 'I was like, 'These guys, these are lovers, right?' I felt very odd about that.'

The words are suspended in the air, as a delicate bridge between the two actors. Their shared history on GoT makes the change both inevitable and awkward.

That kiss on an apple box

The best talked about is during a kiss scene that required one of them to climb on top of an apple box to reach the other.

'It was slightly embarrassing, having to get on an apple box to kiss her because she's about a foot taller than me,' Harington said. 'But apart from that, my dignity was pretty intact,' he laughed.

The physical height difference is a minuscule, almost laughably small detail that takes a romantic cliché and turns it into a strangely real and relatable reality. Kit's humour helps to make the awkwardness soft.

'That's my brother'

Sophie shared her own feelings about the role. In a Vogue interview, she said, 'It's really weird for all of us' that she and Harington are playing 'lovers' in the new horror film. The line replicates the confusion that fans and the actors themselves are dealing with.

On Late Night with Seth Meyers, Sophie joked about the simplicity of the script: I'm like, 'Oh, shoot, that's my brother.'

Both actors admitted to the fact that the script was clear: 'kiss, kiss, sex, kiss, sex' she quipped. The absence of subtlety made the scene seem like a wrestling match between audience expectations and acting boundaries.

Well-established Stark siblings, and we can't unsee

'The Dreadful' is directed by Natasha Kermani and also stars Marcia Gay Harden, Laurence O'Fuarain, and Jonathan Howard. The film begins on a misty moor, a setting with an allusion to the 'Wars of the Roses,' which Sophie said has the same allusion to their 'Game of Thrones' period.

'At the moment, you can't not have Kit,' she told The Times when asked about casting.

Kit, who is married to co-star Rose Leslie and has two children, says that the reunion was an opportunity to reconnect.

'It was a good opportunity to be with her again and work with her,' he emphasised. 'Something that was lovely is that we got on set together and our friendship completely ignited again. It was like being with family. It really did.'

'The Dreadful' will be released on select theatres and digital platforms on Friday 20th February. Critics predict the movie will stretch the boundaries of the sibling-turned-lover relationships along with the atmospheric dread fans expect from a Gothic horror.
