As the investigation and the Los Angeles grand jury continue to seek the truth and identify the culprit behind the death of Celeste Rivas, observers and internet sleuths closely following the case have begun speculating about the possible role of D4vd's family.

The speculation follows reports that his family filed a habeas corpus petition challenging a subpoena issued by the grand jury requiring them to testify.

However, the petition was denied, meaning the singer's family is now required to appear before the grand jury. As of writing, they have yet to testify. Here are the speculations.

The Discovery of Celeste Rivas

Six months ago, on 8 September 2025, severely decomposed and decapitated remains were found in the front trunk of a black Tesla impounded in a Los Angeles lot.

The remains placed inside two cadaver bags were later identified as Celeste Rivas, a 15-year-old girl who had been missing for more than a year. The grim discovery was made after an impound lot employee reported a foul smell coming from the vehicle.

The case was closely associated with D4vd, a rising singer who gained immense popularity for his song Here With Me that went viral on TikTok.

After the discovery, the internet sleuths stitched together every detail that they could find about D4vd and Rivas. They found that the singer and rapper had a matching tattoo with the teenager. Photos of them together also circulated online.

Speculations about D4vd's Family's Role in the Case

As D4vd's family has yet to appear and testify before the Los Angeles County Grand Jury, some people have begun speculating about the role they may have played in their son's and brother's case related to the death of 15-year-old Rivas.

In February, reports indicated that D4vd's father, Dawud Burke, his mother, Colleen Burke, and his brother, Caleb Burke, were subpoenaed to testify before the grand jury. They filed a petition challenging the subpoena, but it was denied.

Now, people believe that D4vd's family 'probably knew something.' Los Angeles Magazine journalist Lauren Conlin, who has been closely following the case, posted a video on X expressing her opinion on the case. She said that the singer's family testimony 'could be critical' for the case.

She speculated that the family might have the details that are needed for an indictment to be made, something that had been speculated months ago.

Questions for D4vd's Family in Connection to the Case

Conlin said that details about the transfer of properties can be a dire detail. She said, 'David transferred some of his assets to his mother. Whose idea was this? Was it her idea? Was it his idea? How did he explain this? Did they email about this? Was there money exchanged? I want more details.'

Emails and phone calls made by the singer is also speculated by the journalist, which was echoed by a netizen saying, 'It seems like if he was emailing and calling his parents a lot, this is all information the police could get with a warrant. All his electronic records.'

Conlin asked, 'Is there or was there a time when David possibly called his parents excessively, emailed them excessively? I'm thinking maybe if he got himself into trouble and he didn't know what to do, sometimes we call our parents. Well, I want to know.'

She also said that D4vd's parents' accounts could help establish a timeline that could be pieced together in the case and could indicate whether he was involved in Rivas' death.

'They maybe could tell us a time when David randomly or sporadically flew home to Texas out of the blue. What was he like? Did he seem upset? Was he injured? Did they look at his car? Did they look at his clothes? Did they notice anything funny?' she said

Conlin also shared that D4vid's family would stand for at least three days.

Meanwhile, another netizen speculated that the singer's family may have known something about the incident. 'The family helped knowingly/unknowingly. They probably didn't know all the details, but they knew something and did not give information to the police,' they wrote about D4vd's family.

The singer was recently named as a 'target' on an unsealed court document that has since circulated online.
